09 Apr Back for a Third Year: The Victoria One Act Play Festival
Now in its third year, the Victoria One Act Play Festival is back and more electric than ever. From June 3–7, join us once again at the Belfry Theatre to witness 14 bold new works by emerging local artists, each offering a fresh take on what live theatre can be.
Over the past two years, the festival has become a launchpad for new voices and innovative storytelling, and this year’s lineup raises the bar even higher. With an eclectic mix of comedy, drama, movement, and puppetry, the 2025 festival promises an unforgettable experience for audiences and artists alike.
“This festival has always been about spotlighting local talent and taking risks,” says Festival Director Kurt Archer. “We’ve seen incredible growth since year one, and it’s exciting to see how local artists are continuing to challenge themselves and their audiences.”
This year, Between Words is proud to present 14 original one-act plays that reflect the diversity, passion, and creativity of Victoria’s independent theatre scene:
- Gold – Katlia Lafferty
- Four out of Five Dentists – Theodore Falkiner
- Kin – Andrew Sawyer
- MID PLAY – Angelo Rosso
- Spare Parts: A Robot Musical – Elijah Bell
- Genki Bear: Memoirs of a Granddaughter – Misty Cozac
- Fire Lookout Moon Man – Logan Mullin
- The Great AmericanSki Patrol – Sydney Hun
- Homecoming – Kaelan Bain
- Joany – Molly Jamin
- PLAY/WRITE – Ariel Glidden
- Peregrine and Death – August Kirste-Yee
- Animals Crossing Paths: a Choose the Murderer Mystery – Arianna Loy
- The Hawk Lover – Nicholas Guerreiro
To mark our third year, we’re introducing General Auditions—an open call for actors and creatives looking to get involved in the festival. Five producing groups will be casting and building their creative teams through this shared audition day, making it easier than ever to connect with new collaborators. If you’ve been looking for a way to be part of the festival, this is your chance.
General Auditions take place on April 12. For more details and to sign up, visit betweenwords.ca/audition-day-for-artists.
